1. The History of the Park
According to the TN State Parks website, Warriors’ Path State Park is a 950 acre state park. It is located on the shores of the Patrick Henry Reservoir, on the Holston River. The park was named for the Great Cherokee War and Trading Path and has a long history of travelers and outdoor enthusiasts.
2. Warriors’ Path Has So Much to Offer
I have been going to this park most of my life. Warriors’ Path State Park is the park where I learned to be a runner, paddle-boated, went swimming during the summer, tagged along with my dad at the golf course, attempted to learn how to play tennis, and attended multiple nature programs. It is the park now that my son thinks has the best playground around. The playground is a highlight and “must-do”when he visits his grandparents.
Warriors’ Path State Park boasts many water front activities including a fishing pier, paddle boat and kayak rentals, and a marina. It has tennis courts and soccer fields, two campgrounds, a huge swimming pool, mountain biking, hiking, a nationally recognized golf course and award-winning nature education program. It also features a disc golf course. One place I spent lots of time, as a young girl, was Duck Island. This island, attached to the mainland by a short causeway, features many picnic shelters and a .64 mile paved trail that is perfect for walking, jogging, or biking!
3. The Boundless Playground
Warriors’ Path State Park is the only state park with a Boundless Playground. This is a playground where children of all physical and mental abilities can play together. It also boasts the Lions Narnia Trail that includes braille and 8 sensory stations. These stations tell visitors the story of Aslan of the Chronicles of Narnia. The Anderson Treehouse is as fully accessible tree house and there is an amphitheater as well!
Warriors’ Path State Park has so much to do whether it is for a couple of hours, all day or even as a vacation destination! There is programming all year- nature programs, summer in the park programs, trick-or-treating in the campground, and a Christmas festival! Find out more about this wonderful state park on the TN State Park website or on their Facebook page!
