Travel Activities for Kids

One of my favorite traditions when going on a long road trip is to surprise my kids with travel activities!  I started this several years ago with our girls and now I do it with TJ! When the girls were young they didn’t have tablets or smart phones, so giving them something new and fun to do was important.  I also gave them snacks!  Lot’s of snacks!  And one of the girls always got motion sickness medicine!  Now when we travel, TJ has a tablet and a DVD player so keeping him occupied really isn’t a problem. I don’t really like him being on those things for the whole trip, which is why I do the road trip bag full of travel activities!  The bag items change every year, but here is what he gets this year for vacation!

Some of our Favorite Activities:

  1.  A cookie sheet: This is what we use as a lap desk. It fits in a backpack, it’s light, it’s magnetic, and it has sides to contain things.
  2. Travel Bingo:This will require someone to play with TJ, but I think this will be fun.  It will ensure that TJ has to look out the window and see the surroundings.  There are 4 different cards so we can mix it up!Travel Activities for Kids
  3. Wikki Stixs: TJ has never had these before.  This is a sea creature set and he can work on it on the cookie sheet.Travel Activities for Kids
  4. Sticker books:  I got one from Usborne.  They have the best sticker books!  Everything from Monster Trucks, princesses, fairies, tractors and more!Travel Activities for kids
  5. Legos: I got the Lego Travel Building Suitcase.  It’s a figure with a beach set.  I also got two small sets at Walmart.  One is Jurassic World and one is superheros. Travel Activities for Kids
  6. Audible:  We are going to attempt to listen to books this year on the trip!  Paddington is up first!
  7. 5 Minute Snuggle Stories:  This is more for the vacation itself.  I read to TJ every night and it doesn’t make sense to pack a lot of books.  This way we have one book with a lot of stories!
  8. Movies:  Usually I buy movies, but this year we will check a few out at the library.
  9. Notepad and crayons. Travel Activities for Kids

I pack everything up in a backpack and then surprise TJ when we get on the road! He looks forward to this every year and spends the first 30 minutes just exploring his new things! Do you all do road trip bags?  What do you pack?

I would love to hear from you!
