So you’ve done Walt Disney World or Disneyland and need something new that is Disney-ish for vacation or you hear good things about cruises and want to try one out for your family. Where should you begin to look for a family friendly/high quality cruise that serves the needs of everyone in your family? Disney Cruise Lines is your answer! I had the opportunity to cruise on the Disney Dream a few weeks ago and I can’t wait to share with you 10 reasons why you and your family should cruise with Disney Cruise Lines!
1. Family Friendly Rooms
Not every cruise line room is created equal! Disney Cruise Line offers so much thought and detail in designing their staterooms to make them family friendly. Most Disney Cruise Line staterooms have a bathtub, which is a hot commodity in the cruising world, and is great for bathing little ones! Disney Cruise Line staterooms also have a lot of storage, including amazing space under the bed for storing suitcases. Disney Cruise Line staterooms offer a curtain that can be pulled to separate the “bedroom” space from the “living room” space so that children and parents do not have to go to sleep at the same time.
Most Disney Cruise Line staterooms also offer a split bathroom concept with the toilet and a sink in one room and the shower/tub and a sink in the other. This is perfect for multiple family members getting ready at the same time! There are also USB ports in each room that make charging your devices super easy!
The last cool thing about Disney Cruise Line staterooms is that each room offers some kind of view. The inside staterooms have a magical porthole that provides guests with a real-time view of the ship’s exterior while reflecting your staterooms’s actual location, port or starboard. Guests can watch out for some surprises floating by such as a Disney Character or even a pirate ship! Ocean view rooms offer a large or two small portholes for ocean viewing and then the veranda rooms have a veranda which is perfect for sunrises, sunsets or dreaming!
2. High Quality Entertainment!
The entertainment was such a highlight for me starting with the Broadway style shows. Our feature show on the cruise was “Beauty and Beast.” I have seen this musical in several forms, including on Broadway, and this was every bit as good! Our cruise had two other nights of entertainment that were equally as entertaining and well done! There was also entertainment all over the ship in the evening including in the lobby (always very good and very family friendly!), in the bars and clubs and even from our servers at dinner! (More on that below!)
3. Dining
Meals are included in your cruise package. All Disney Cruise Line boats have 3 dinner dining options that are included and served in rotation. This means you get to dine in all three venues, experience all of the food options and the best news…….the servers travel with you! I loved this! Not only was the food great and you could order as much as you wanted, but the servers got to know you and could almost predict what you might like next or what drink you would want. Our servers were not only great at serving but were also funny! One of our servers provided us with magic tricks every night and kept our table laughing!
There is also a buffet that is open for every meal along with ice cream, drinks and coffee that is always available. Another great thing about Disney Cruise Lines is soft drinks are FREE on-board!
There are also 2 reservation only restaurants on-board most ships, along with a reservation only character meal! These reservations can be made during on-line check in or once on board.
4. Cool Kids Clubs for All Ages
Disney Cruise Ships offer so much for little ones to do! It’s a Small World Nursery is offered for children 3 and under. Reservations are required for the nursery and there is a cost per hour.
Disney’s Oceaneer Club is offered for toilet trained 3 year old’s to 12 year olds with activities all day for each age group!
The Edge is fun place for tweens to come and hang out, watch movies, play games and more with other cruisers their age!
The Vibe is a teen-exclusive place. Teens can come here to chill out, listen to music, watch TV and more!
5. Adult Only Areas
Every Disney Cruise Line has an adult only pool area with lounge chairs, pools, hot tubs and bars! Each boat also has several clubs and bars with different types of themes and entertainment that is Adult Only!
6. Spa
The Spa on Disney Cruise Line ships is AMAZING! Book your spa services during online check in or when you arrive on the ship. One amazing option is a Rainforest day or weekend pass. It boasts 5 tropical aromatherapy showers, a steam room, and more. All of which have amazing ocean views! Tip……attend the open house if you are cruising on Disney Cruise Line. You must see what it has to offer with your own eyes! You can also win spa prizes if you attend the open house.
7. Themed Days or Nights
Most ships offer a pirate night on one night of the cruise! Some other themed cruises include Marvel Day at Sea or Star Wars at Sea! During the Fall the ships offer Halloween on the High Seas and during the Christmas holiday offers Very Merri-time Cruising!
8. Fireworks at Sea
Every Disney boat does fireworks at sea (weather permittig). They are the ONLY cruise line that does this!
9. Parties
Different boats offer different themed parties, but all offer Mickey’s Sail-Away party as the dock leaves port! This was a fun time for everyone to come together, dance, see characters and have so much fun! Themed parties are offered on pirate nights. Some ships also have a Frozen party, Mickey and Minnie’s Surprise Party at Sea and more!!
10. Characters
Character’s are everywhere on a Disney Cruise Ship! They are out in the lobby, at the Parties, on the private Island and there is even a Character breakfast for a more up close meeting.
As you can see, I have provided you with 10 AMAZING reasons why you should choose Disney Cruise Line for your family’s next adventure! I promise that between the family friendly rooms, the dining, the characters, the parties, the activities and the entertainment, you will not be disappointed!!
